B2B portals in India at takeoff stage: NASSCOM
New Delhi, July 21:
The business-to-business market in India is finally taking off with more and more Internet companies moving towards online trade exchange models.

Industries are expected to reach online penetrations of 2% by 2003 and 8% by 2008, a National Association of Software and Services Companies report says.

B2B commerce growth in India, according to it, is driven by lower purchasing costs, reduction in inventories, lower cycle time, more efficient and effective customer service, lower marketing costs and new sales opportunities. Businesses that use the Internet to buy, sell, distribute and maintain products and services are realizing significant cost savings and increased sales opportunities.

Revenue streams would increasingly be aligned with the emerging global model. This consists of the majority coming from transactions and the rest from advertisement revenues, the report says. "We are planning to build India's largest online trade exchange and concentrate on a transaction-based model," chief executive officer of Delhi-based Indiatradezone.com, Vivek Joshi said.

The Website features around 3,493 products and gets around 300 inquiries per day. According to him, it gets 120,000 page views a month and has a total of 7843 members. Promoted by Wyzen Systems Pvt. Ltd., Indiatradezone.Com was launched in 1999 and claims to distinguish itself from other portals in that its registered members can all be contacted via email, an important necessity for online trade.

Trade-india.com, another Delhi-based B2B portal, claims to be the first Indian website consisting of a database of exporters and importers found in the yellow pages, and concentrates on small and medium enterprises and was set up in 1996. After the runaway success of trade-india.com, Infocom Network Ltd., has now hosted transportersindia.com to cater to the needs of the cargo and freight professionals. "We get about 1,50,000 pages a month," CEO Bikky Khosla said. "The revenue model of the portal is till date advertisement driven but in the future we would like is to be transaction driven".

Indiatradezone.com updates itself everyday by including fresh trade leads sent in by its userrs.
Thus, any user from any corner of the world can directly send in his buying or selling requirements by merely logging onto the site, without any costs, whatsoever.

The site thus provides a direct link between traders, absolutely free of costs. A unique feature called "mail template" which is a platform of interface between the potential buyers and sellers, is also offered by indiatradezone.com.

It thus supports "live" data, or online interchange of information through e-mails, wherein, buyers can send in their requirement enquiries to multiple sellers simultaneously. It also provides user customizable content, he said.
