Estratetraenol, also known as estra-1,3,5(10),16-tetraen-3-ol, is a chemical compound produced by women that has been described as having pheromone-like activities in primates, including humans. It is derivative of the sex hormone estradiol, an estrogen, yet has no known estrogenic effects.
Estratetraenol causes the hypothalamus to dump oxytocin into the blood stream and into the surrounding intracellular space of the hypothalamus, specifically the preoptic areas and the nucleus accumbens. Both oxytocin and dopamine bind to the same receptors in these areas.
