Injection molding is the manufacturing process for producing parts from thermoplastics and thermosetting plastics by applying heat energy to the resins thus, converting granular resins into a molten state and force injecting the liquefied material into a mold under high pressure into the cavity of the mold. The resin is allowed to cool or cure and is ejected out of the mold taking the shape of the cavity and core.



Injection mold machine also known as an injection press consists of two main parts, a clamping unit and an injection unit.



Classified into two broad categories, horizontal or vertical depending on the mold orientation and molding requirement. Majority machines are horizontal but a few are vertical where the application is niche insert molding where gravity is used to the advantage.



Horizontal machines can be classified by the system that drives them. Hydraulic (oil), electric (also called EMT electric machine technology) or hybrid (combination of both)

EMTs reduce operating costs due better management of energy, are faster, more quieter with higher accuracy but are higher in cost as compared to hydraulic machines.



Hybrid machines use the advantages of both hydraulics and electrical.
