Mayer rod coater method was first used by Charles Mayer in 1905 and became patent in 1912. Continuously used since 1912, this method is known by several names such as Mayer Bar, Mayer Rod, Coating rods, Equalizer bars and doctor rods. Mayer rod is a stainless steel rod that is wrapped tightly with stainless steel wire available in varying diameters.
