The dryer has a slightly downward slope towards discharge end to facilitate conveying of feed material by gravity Material to be dried enters the dryer, and as the dryer rotates, the material is lifted up by a series of internal lifters present along the inner wall of the dryer. When the dryer rotates the material get gets lifted up and as it falls back down to the bottom of the dryer. Hot air passing through the dryer removes moisture from the material as it falls. The dryer can be co-current or counter current.
