Based on the research project on breeding seagrapes and renovating the coastal environment, grape seaweed was first piloted in ponds in 2004. The quality of fresh grape seaweed raised in ponds has been highly appreciated by the Japanese market for its standard. Vietnamese grape seaweed has a dark green color, and the fruit is larger and thicker than those in Japan. Seagrapes have opened up a new aquaculture industry that is environmentally friendly, low-risk, and improves the lives of farmers in coastal areas. Currently, the grape seaweed farming area has expanded to more than 200 hectares and will grow even stronger in the future because the market has expanded to countries around the world such as Japan, Korea, the United States, EU, Singapore, Malaysia, China, etc. Loc Bien Co.,ltd made in Vietnamese fresh seagrapes has the top quality in the world. However, in order to export fresh seagrapes to other countries requires a special processing because grape seaweed is very sensitive to external changes. In 2016, we have successfully researched the process of refining fresh grape seaweed after harvest. A strict, serious process, carefully supervised from the selection of breeding varieties to the post-harvest handling of raw materials, packaging, and shipping to the customer. This process is supervised and approved by the Japanese Ministry of Fisheries.
