Q. Can we eat oil cake?
Answer
The product that is acquired by pressing is known as an oilcake, while the product that is obtained through solvent extraction is known as an oil meal. The manufacturing of oilcake may be achieved by one of two distinct mechanical procedures. The process of extracting oil from seeds results in the production of a by-product known as oil cakes. There are two distinct varieties of oilcake: edible and non-edible. However, in India, as a result of the unhygienic processing conditions that are common in many small-scale factories and units that process oilseeds, the residual cake or meal is generally unfit for human consumption and can only be used for animal feed or as an ingredient in nitrogenous fertilizer. This is because India does not have a well-developed food safety infrastructure.
