Q. How does sulphuric acid plant functions?
Answer
In contact process:1.Sulphur (crystalline solid) is burned to produce sulphur dioxide: S (s) + O2 → SO22.Sulphur dioxide is oxidized in the presence of vanadium oxide catalyst to produce sulphur trioxide: 2 SO2 + O2 ⇌ 2 SO33.Sulphur trioxide is absorbed to form sulphuric acid (also known as oleum).
