Q. Should you wear socks with rubber shoes?
Answer
When asked this, our standard response is always, "That's totally up!" Even though wearing socks isn't strictly necessary for comfort with our wellies (thanks to the neoprene inside), doing so can make putting on and taking off the rain boots a little less of a hassle. A podiatrist, or foot and ankle surgeon, warns that wearing shoes without socks, especially slip-on, canvas, and pointed-toe shoes, might aggravate existing foot problems. If wearing the boots without socks on a regular basis, the insides may get dirty. Socks prevent blisters, foot odor, and bacterial and fungal infections by cushioning and protecting the feet from rubbing and other sources of discomfort.
