Sodium chlorite (NaCIO2) is used as a water disinfectant and a bleaching agent in paper, pulp and textile industry. With zinc chloride, it is used in mouthwashes, eye drops (as a preservative), therapeutic rinses, toothpastes, and as cleaning solution for contact lenses.
