Q. Why khadi cloth is expensive?

Answer

Khadi has been synonymous with our freedom struggle. In order to boycott the use of English textiles, Gandhi ji had given a call for the adoption of Khadi. The English used to force Indian farmers to produce the best cotton, that was bought cheaply and sent to mills in England. Then the finished products were reshipped to India to be sold at a high price. Khadi cloths are made up using a handloom, and generally by rural communities. Since no industrial power loom is used, therefore Khadi fabric takes a longer time to produce. The quality of the fabric depends on the craftsmanship of the artisan. Generally speaking, the Khadi material is more comfortable for our Indian climatic conditions.
